Also, due to their shape, they cannot open wide enough to accommodate hanging two socks by the toes together. Also, they are a somewhat sticky type plastic and dirt seems to want to stick to them, especially the grooves in the top sides of the pin. First, they make a very irritating squeaking sound when hanging up cotton clothes. With those things being said, however, there are several things about these that I do not like. Also the price is reasonable for the number you get and the fact that they actually work.
They have held up in terrific wind and don't allow clothes to slip down the line (I have a 1/4 cotton/poly line).
I have had these for a few months now and find they work very well. (The holes on the pins are just wide enough that I can definitely imagine that if you were using an all-cotton, part-cotton, or wire clothesline, these pins might not work quite as well on they do with the plastic line.) I bought two sets of pins and have found that quantity to be sufficient for nearly all of our laundry the only time I've come close to running short on pins, is when I've done a lot of housecleaning and am washing all of our cleaning rags at once. We get a lot of rain and wind here, so we use an all-plastic clothesline, and I like really like that you can feel and hear these pins "snap" securely onto the clothesline if I don't hear or feel them snap, I know I need to adjust the pin right then, and so don't have to worry about the sheets blowing into the neighbor's yard.
